My Philosophy

A cartoon is an abstracted interpretation of a complex drawing or painting. I can copy an object from nature onto paper or canvas making sure that I get the colors and shadows just right. But to me, this is overproduced and complicates the basic image. I much rather record just the outline of the object, minimize or discard the shadows altogether, and keep colors to a basic minimum of shapes. As a result, I have just simplified the drawing/painting to a cartoon. Now I can begin further experimentation thru abstraction and enter an intellectual discourse with the cartoons by way of infinite mediums.
