[ DEF SOUL ] Sisqo, Nokio, and Jazz are all that remain of Dru Hill now that Woody has moved on to pursue a path in gospel music, but they seem to be doing fine on their own. With "You Are Everything" sitting on top of the charts and much more in the works, Dru Hill is definitely here to stay. When the Baltimore-based group stepped on to the scene with their debut single "Tell Me" in 1997, people could only imagine the impact they would have on the world of R&B. The group, who's name is taken from Baltimore's historic Druid Hill Park, got their start performing at churches around their city. The group then started working at a fudge store together, where they would sing and dance to entertain customers while making fudge for them. The store eventually had the highest sales of any in the chain. They moved their act to the Apollo's Theater Amateur Night and later to the Apollo's national competition in New York. More connections were made and the group eventually ended up singing "Tell Me," which was originally recorded by former BlackStreet member, Dave Hollister, for fun in a studio after they heard it. They were overheard by a producer, asked to try recording it, and their version eventually made it on the "Eddie" soundtrack instead of Hollister's. Dru Hill masterfully combines Sisqo's emotional vocals with Jazz's falsetto riffs and Nokio's smooth tenor flow, to create a one-of-a-kind sound. These guys are definitely some of the hottest R&B superstars around today. Check out Dru Hill on the WEB |
