The Event: The 17th Wine Harvest Luncheon began a year-long series of events that would celebrate The Christian Brothers Centennial of wine making. The gourmet luncheon, was held at the historic Haas Lilienthal House in San Francisco, with Mayor Dianne Feinstein as one of the featured speakers. The Assignment: The assignment was to create an identity that would signify and symbolize one hundred years of wine making tradition. The Solution: While this was an event identity I approached it in the same way I handle a straight corporate or product identity; keeping in mind that the solution should make a strong visual statement that would unify every aspect of the program. In developing the identity one of my primary goals was to graphically depict three qualities. 1. The history of a company rich in tradition and traditional values. 2. The spiritual dimension of the company. 3. The extra care taken in the wine making process. I wanted a high impact visual that was elegant, traditional, distinctive and memorable. Roughly six concepts were explored before centering on the hands and grapes configuration. The Application: The design was used on four large silkscreen banners ( that decorated numerous events held throughout the year ), stickers, invitations and menus for the Wine Harvest Luncheon which was held at the historic Haas Lilienthal House in San Francisco. I like to point out how this particular event was carefully color coordinated, from the invitations to the table cloths and napkins to the flower arrangements. All of the program elements reflecting the main colors of the Centennial design. I have to say that this assignment stands as one of my all time favorites. |
