The initial impression is fun and happy as Escape mimics the facade of life; but closer
observation reveals those underlying currents of concern, discontent, confusion and despair that we all
encounter - at times - in daily life.
The balls are a metaphore for the many ways that people escape the various weighty aspects of daily life.
Depending on how intense the issues are - escape behaviors often translate into addictive behavior such as compulsive
cleaning, sports, video games, sex, alcohol, drugs, shopping, collecting, online chat rooms, etc. The results
of our escape mechanisms can often be destructive, while many are harmless and even productive.

It took me almost a year to find the balls for this piece. It took regular trips to various flea markets,
shops, an art recycling facility, ebay and other sources to finally come up with the right combination. To see the
balls in a pile on my work table - you had no sense of the impact they would have when incorporated into a designed
framework.
