This piece is an interesting look at our culture - immersed in collectables ( often with a vision of future financial
gain ) and the desparity between the have and have nots on today's streets.

Back when Beany Babys were hot and everything was seen as a collectible that held promise of future
profits - most major fast food chains ran special promotions featuring series of collectables. I recall
collecting Jurrasic Park and A Nightmare Before Christmas watches as well as some other things. We would hurry from store to
store to see if they were handing out those things that we didn't have to complete out collections. Often we - as did
many others - would buy three "Happy Meals" - only to grab the toys and leave the "food".
Many Happy Meals went to the homeless - but many didn't.
